BDS helping a neighbor in need
Dear Editor,
I would like to publically thank the Bruning-Davenport-Shickley school board and administration for helping a “neighbor-in-need”. The Crete Cardinals were scheduled for a play-off football game in McCook on November 1st. We had contracted with a vendor for transportation on the prior Monday and they inexplicably cancelled our agreement Wednesday. A different bus contractor accepted the agreement and our credit card that same Wednesday. The new group cancelled Thursday afternoon. Making matters worse was the fact we had promised two Crete School buses to Lincoln Public Schools for their needs on the evening of November 1st. I was aware that BDS had an impressive Coach Bus and called Superintendent Clark. As always, she was empathetic and professional. Board President Weber was contacted and a verbal agreement was made to pay BDS the same rate previously arranged with the other vendors. Thank goodness schools don’t break promises. The driver, Berdon Pedersen, was excellent and delivered the team safely on a very windy night. Unfortunately, Berdon couldn’t help the team win and the Cardinals went down in defeat. My hope is that some day we will be able to repay this kindness to the BDS district. You definitely can add the Crete Cardinals to your fan base. Go Eagles!
