Fairbury First Friday To Celebrate Oktoberfest
Fairbury’s First Friday event is scheduled for Friday, October 4th in downtown Fairbury. Beginning at 5 p.m., visitors to downtown Fairbury can visit five stops and enjoy many art forms, including photography, paintings and pottery created by local artists.
Jefferson County Art Guild, located at 520 5th street across from the Campbell Bros Circus Mural, will feature a selection of art from guild members and live music by David Hunt on guitar. New Earth Clay Pottery, located at 515 4th street, will feature the works of potter Bill Robbins of Fairbury who works exclusively with clay material from Endicott.
Lady George and The Dragon is located on the east side of the square at 416 E Street and offers a variety of items ranging from soy scented candles, hand cast chess sets, and carved Viking runes plus glass vases, paper weights, figurines of real and fantasy animals, wind chimes and swords. Sims Florist and Gifts is located on the south side of the square at 420 4th street and offers an expanded selection of seasonal and home décor, hand-crafted and personal gift items.
The Tasting Room is located inside Stagecoach Mall Antiques and features the work of concrete Artist Thom Hunt of Big Bamboo Studios of Fairbury who created a large scale fireplace and “brick” wall sculpted entirely of concrete. Beginning at 6 p.m., The Tasting Room will host an old world-style Oktoberfest celebration sponsored by Side Trek Bar & Grill and H & H Distributing. A selection of eight different craft beers from Nebraska and across the U.S. will be offered for sampling (must be 21), accompanied by German-inspired bites provided by Chef Bob Albrecht of Old Bank Coffee Shop in Nelson. Sue and the Blue River Czechs of Crete will provide live polka music until 9 p.m.
The Fairbury First Friday Art Walk is free for all ages. A limited number of tickets for the beer tasting are available for $10 by logging to www.Fairbury.com or by calling Julie Katz at 402.613.2063. Proceeds from the tasting event will benefit local art projects and future First Friday Art Walk events.
