CSG Torch Run begins June 1
The annual Cornhusker State Games Torch Run will take place June 1 to 27; the route begins in the panhandle and winds its way through the state where it ends in Lincoln. The torch will be in Fairbury on June 24, the closest point of the route for Thayer County.
Last year, even though the games were held a month earlier than usual, the county watched 38 local individuals vie for medals in ten different events.
This year, the games return to their mid-summer time frame, July 15-24, featuring more than 60 sports in and around Lincoln.
The Torch Run, which is sponsored by the Nebraska National Guard and the Nebraska Air National Guard, serves as the Games’ largest promotion signaling that registration for the annual sports festival is open. In 2010, Chester resident John Gillett was one of over 1,000 runners to move the torch along its course.
If you or anyone you know from Thayer County is participating in the June torch run, we here at the Hebron Journal-Register would love to hear about it. Information and photos can be sent to hebronjr@windstream.net. Please include the participant’s name and where on the route they did their run.
We will also do our best to follow the progress of any locals who are participating in the Cornhusker State Games in July; however, if you or someone you know is from here, but playing for a team who may be registered in another county, please let us know who they are and what team and county they are playing for.
