Davenport’s Achievement Day packs in the activities
The “very Small Town” with a “Great Big Life” features a full schedule for Davenport Achievement Day July 13-14.
Co-ed sand volleyball starts the activities July 13 at 8 a.m., and the volunteer firemen will begin their Achievement weekend with a water fight at 9 a.m.
Horseshoes and ladder golf are on the list for adult games while water games and an inflatable obstacle course will keep the kids busy. All games are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
At 11 a.m., Bruning-Davenport FFA will step in to serve a grilled hamburger and hot dog lunch in the park.
The Davenport Achievement Board lined up the events all day with the tractor pull at 2 p.m., watermelon eating contest at 3 p.m., and parade lineup at St. Peter’s Church at 4 p.m.
“The watermelon contest is something we’re trying this year. It’s a new event,” Colton Lowery said. Lowery is on the Achievement Board.
The parade isn’t held every year — Lowery said the board includes it every three to four years. Entries do not have to pre-register.
“Just show up. The last parade was pretty great,” Lowery said.
The parade is set for 5 p.m. Shortly after it begins, the Lions Club will serve barbecue brisket in the community building.
The community building is air-conditioned and will also be the site for Bingo at 2 p.m. and the cake auction later in the day.
The first day of the celebration tops off with live music from Red Line Velocity and a beer garden at RW’s Dining & Drinks. The band plays at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday’s activities begin at 10 a.m., with a church service in the community building, followed by a pancake breakfast at 11 a.m.
The Road Rally lineup is at 12:30 p.m., on the north side of RW’s for the 1 p.m., start.
The rally was created by the Achievement Board.
“Come and have some fun,” Lower said. “We’re able to do more of everything this year because we have a couple more board members.”
