Donations slow down after holidays
The holidays may seem like a distant memory for many, but that doesn’t mean that the time for giving to those in need has to be over. There are many opportunities to donate during the holidays, but the need of those in Thayer County still exists throughout the entire year.
“During the holiday season we get awesome donations we count on to get through the holidays and winter,” said Blue Valley Community Action Family and Community Services Manager Ryan Bailey. “But donations basically come to a halt right after Christmas.”
The donations during the holiday season helped put the food pantry in a good state, although Bailey says that it tends to go quickly.
“Some years that food has to last us for a long time,” she said.
During the holiday season, Bailey says that Blue Valley Community Action (BVCA) serves close to double the usual amount of people, but this isn’t the only time of an increase in those needing help.
