Hebron woman gets jail time for identity theft charges

Jaime Higel of Hebron appeared in Thayer County District Court on March 6 for sentencing.

She originally faced multiple charges for identity theft, but following a plea agreement, her charges were reduced to two counts of identity theft. They are both class III felonies.

These charges stemmed from incidents that occurred in July of 2013. According to court documents, Higel charged approximately $3,000 to one credit card and $4,000 on a different credit card. Although the purchases occurred in other counties, the cards were opened with names and personal information of two Thayer County residents.

District Judge Vicky Johnson sentenced Higel to two terms of not less than five years and no more than six years in jail to be served consecutively for the charges. She was given credit for 173 days already served.

Higel also has two pending cases in Sarpy and Douglas counties.

Pennie Wolford was also set for sentencing last Thursday.

She was arrested as part of the drug sweep that occurred last summer. She was originally charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance.

After a plea agreement her charges were changed to one count of distribution of a controlled substance.
