New teachers greet students on first day
Thayer Central students returned to school on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Along with a new year and new classes, three new teachers also greeted the students.
In the elementary, Keri Heinrichs joined the staff. Heinrichs previously taught in Fairbury at St. Michael’s and Fairbury Public Schools. She will be helping out with third grade.
The high school gained two new teachers. Lara Harms will teach Language Arts. Harms is returning to the area for her first teaching position at Thayer Central.
The new business teacher will be Aaron Sasges. He taught at Scotus Central Catholic High School in Columbus for five years and Grand Island Northwest for one year before coming to Thayer Central.
The start of new classes also means the start of fall sports. The first softball game will be Aug. 22. Football games begin Aug. 30. The volleyball and cross country team both begin competition on Sept. 5.
