Plans for ‘Fourth’ wrapping up
Plans are quickly coming together for the Hebron Chamber of Commerce annual Independence Day celebration; all of the scheduled activities will take place Thursday, July 4.
Helpers are still needed, says Chamber Director Tina Reed. For more information about how you can help, call Reed at 402-768-3146. In the meantime, if you would like to participate in any of the contests or the parade, registration forms may be picked up at the Hebron Chamber of Commerce office.
Traditional events such as the Lions Club pancake feed, car and antique tractor shows, Little Mr. and Miss Firecracker contest, Rotary Club Duck Pluck, Nebraska Cattlemen team penning tournament and the annual “Fourth of July” parade will be on tap for the day.
The annual City of Hebron sponsored fireworks display returns to the Hebron Airport this year. The company Midwest Pyrotechnics, LLC, of Stromsburg, will run the show with assistance from the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department.
A few months ago, HVFD chief B.J. Linton told city leaders that although the department has been in charge of the fireworks display for 25 years, the issues of safety, regulation change and expense would best be solved by hiring professionals. The council agreed to hire the company at a cost of $5,000, or approximately $600 under last year’s event.
The company has suggested viewers may prefer to bring chairs to sit near the tarmac to see and hear the program, which is set to music, in its entirety.
Other activities for the Independence Day celebration include a fun run, cribbage tournament, puppy parade, water fights, ball tournaments and the Starburst Talent Search and Songwriters contest.
To participate in the antique tractor, car displays, call Reed at 402-768-3146 to get a registration form.
As is customary, pancakes, hamburgers and a smoked pork chop dinner will be available.
A complete list of activities and times will appear right here on the front page next week.
