Sheriff makes quick arrest in burglary
Two days after a burglary Feb. 15 in the 500 block of Fourth Street in Hebron, a Thayer County Sheriff’s deputy made an arrest that revealed a second burglary seven to 10 days prior on Barger Avenue.
Chadley Priefert, 33, Hebron, was taken into custody Feb. 17 on two counts of felony burglary.
Priefert spoke with officers before his arrest, according to an affidavit filed in Thayer County Court. He said he needed help for his “problem of pills” and “wanted to shove a knife in his head” because of a migraine.
In his quest for relief, Priefert said he was looking for pain pills and found none at either of the two residences.
A witness tipped police off because he saw an individual wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt walking around the Fourth Street property. The witness saw the individual get on a bicycle at the residence.
The sheriff’s office also confiscated hydrocodone pills in a non-prescription bottle from Priefert’s home.
Priefert was held in Thayer County jail until his court appearance.
Thayer County Sheriff David Lee said his office had a notion who was responsible for the burglaries. At the same time, the investigation ruled no one out.
