Titan track team opens season
Thayer Central opened its track season in a big way as the boys’ team ran away with the championship behind all three of its relay teams and the girls claimed second place final behind a strong performance.
For the boys, each of the three relay teams finished first adding to a dominating 237 point finish for the Titans. Fairbury came in second with 95 points. In the 400 relay, Macaulay Mumm, Jacob Kniep, Brian Loontjer and Kalen Wenske completed the course in 47.25 seconds. In the 1600 relay, Cameron Asche, Jared Marsh, Kalen Wenske, and Greg Dightman claimed the victory with a 3:44.04 race and in the 3200 relay, Marsh Heath Fink, Braydon Hergott, and Trev Mumm raced to a 9:12.01 finish for first place.
Individually, several Titans earned first place wins in both field and running events. Complete divisions and times can be found in the stats box accompanying this article.
Gold winners in field events included Greg Dightman in both the triple jump (39’8”) and long jump (19’10.5”); Cody Mumm in the discus with a toss of 131’11”; and Clayton Hintz in pole vault (10’6”).
Winners in the running events included Kalen Wenske in both the 400 meter dash (53.57) and 800 meter run (2:12.98); Adam Hellbusch in the 3200 meter run (11:48.05); Greg Dightman in the 200 meter dash (23.4); and Tyler Van Cleef in the 1600 meter run (5:13.72).
For the girls, first place winners included Lauren Edgecombe in the 100 meter dash (13.21).
The Titans next head to Wilber, Tuesday, March 27, before hosting their own invitational, Thursday, March 29.
