BDS Eagles to send 13 to state track meet
The Bruning-Davenport/Shickley Eagles track team qualified 13 athletes in 13 events Wednesday during the D-5 district track and field meet at Osceola. The meet was delayed one hour due to tornado warnings in the area.
For the girls, junior Cynthia Mick led the way qualifying in four events including the pole vault, 100 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles and as the anchor on the 400 meter relay team. Other members of the qualifying team include freshmen Taylor Kindelspire and Jennifer Mick and junior Anna Lichti.
Freshman Jill Schroeder will compete in the triple jump event and joins Jennifer Mick and senior Zoey Messman in the 1600 meter relay event.
Senior Erika Schroeder makes the final member of the 1600 meter relay team and will also compete in the 300 hurdles event.
Freshman Kallie Schroeder rounds out the girls’ division by competing in the long jump after qualifying at the district contest.
For the boys, senior William Mick qualified in four events including pole vault, both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and as a member of the 400 meter relay team. Joining Mick on the team are sophomore Luke Christensen and juniors Kendrick Holeman and Omar Gines.
State assignments should be posted at the NSAA site later this week. District finishes and qualifiers are posted as soon as they become available. The Hebron Journal-Register will publish all participant times and finishes as well as photos in the May 18 issue on the Sports pages.
The state meet begins Friday, May 20, at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
