Commissioners appoint new county treasurer

At a special session held Aug. 14, Thayer County Board of Commissioners conducted interviews for a new county treasurer. Following the interviews that day, the group made an appointment for the position.

The group voted to appoint Karen Prellwitz. She will start the job Sept. 30.

She will complete the unexpired term of Eileen Asche. Once that term is completed Prellwitz must be voted into the position.

Commissioners formally accepted the resignation of Asche on July 24.

It has been 27 years since Asche first ran for the position. Although before she was elected to the position, she had previously worked in the treasurer’s office.

Prellwitz was chosen over four other applicants.

Commissioners next meeting is set for Aug. 21.
