Several Pleas Heard in District Court

Several pleas were made in September’s District Court hearings.

Matthew Meyer, 27, of Hebron, who originally pled not guilty, entered into a plea agreement.
On Sept. 4, Meyer pled guilty for the possession of a firearm by a felon, a 1D felony. The following charges were dropped: unlawful discharge of a deadly weapon, using a weapon to commit a felony, terroristic threats, domestic assault, child abuse, and cruelty to animals.

The Hebron resident was arrested after he shot the family dog, a miniature Doberman pincer, four times during an argument with his wife. One of the rounds struck approximately three feet from where a nine-year old son was playing in the basement.
Meyer’s sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 6 at 10:30 a.m. He faces three years minimum in prison and is currently in jail. His bond was set at $500,000/10 percent.

In a plea agreement, Johnathan Wilson, 25, of Miami, Oklahoma, pled guilty on September 4 to criminal mischief, a class IV felony. Wilson is accused of wrecking a 2002 Avalanche that did not belong to him.

Local law enforcement responded to a one-vehicle accident on July 16, 2011, where they discovered a wrecked vehicle but no driver. Following a quick investigation, the in-transit vehicle was found to be local and owned by someone other than the driver.

Thayer County Sheriff David Lee reported at the time that Wilson was arrested for auto theft, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and false reporting.

Following his arrest, Wilson left the county and the case was never resolved. A warrant was issued for his arrest,  but Wilson recently returned to the area and turned himself in.

He is currently participating in a drug court program in Oklahoma and his bond was reinstated as a $10,000 corporate surety bond.
His sentencing is on Nov. 6 at 10:15 a.m.

District Court judge Vicky Johnson also arraigned Andrew Collins, 34, of Belvidere.

Collins plead no contest to theft, a class III felony, on Sept. 4. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 6 at 9:45 a.m.

The Belvidere man was arrested July 11 after stealing two transformers, valued at $1,500, from Norris Public Power District. He was assisted by Breana Zoubek, 19, whose arraignment will continue Oct. 2 at 9:30 a.m.

Collins is out of jail on a $50,000/10 percent bond.
