Fair starts this week…
The Thayer County fairgrounds was the site of the 4-H pet show last Saturday. Youth worked with dogs, cats and a variety of other domestic animals kicking off the 4-H contests and shows slated for the 2011 County Fair. Outside of 4-H, open class judging on canned and baked goods, flowers, fine arts and agricultural products takes place Thursday. The opening day also features the parade, pioneer family award, woodcarving, rides, exhibits, food and entertainment. Catch all the excitement Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 4-6, this week. For a detailed schedule of events and activities, see the July 20 and July 27 issues of the Hebron Journal-Register or note Thayer County Fair posters hanging in several locations. Pictured above: Hope Reinke (l) and Kelby Mumm (r) make friends with a hamster during the pet show Saturday morning. Both girls are members of local 4-H clubs. Hope is the daughter of Brad and Amy Reinke of Deshler and Kelby is the daughter of Blake and Rhonda Mumm of Hebron.
The Thayer County Agriculture Society said the annual parade will begin at 6:30 p.m., Thursday evening, not 6 p.m., as was mistakenly printed on the fair posters. Also, open class exhibits will be released Saturday night, 9-11 p.m., this year instead of the traditional Sunday morning release time. Area newspapers will be on site to take photographs of winners.
