Free Fishing Clinic To Be Held At Alexandria State Recreation Area
The Alexandria State Recreation Area is holding another Kid’s Fishing Clinic and Family Day on Saturday, May 21, at 9:30 a.m. This is the 11th year.
There have been approximately 200 participants on the average the last five years of the event. The address is 560 Ave. and 718 Road in Jefferson County. This is on the Thayer County and Jefferson County line. It is approximately eight miles west and seven miles north of Fairbury.
The even is free to all. The door prizes are for kids 16 and younger. There will be fishing poles and bait provided for those in need along with a free hotdog cookout for all.
There are three grand prizes — one for the biggest fish, the biggest crappie and the biggest bluegill. There will be many other door prizes available at the 3 p.m., drawings.
The great thing about this day is that you don’t need a park permit or a fishing license. The lake has very safe and accessible shorelines for fishing.
If anyone needs extra help learning how to cast, tie fishing knots, learn fish identification, proper fish handling, there will be volunteers who will assist. It’s simply a fun filled family day.
If anyone is interested in volunteering during the event, contact Rick Bell at the Alexandria State Recreation Area.
