Hebron man dies in house fire Monday night

On Dec. 9, at approximately 10:29 p.m. the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 134 Lawrence Road in Hebron for a structure fire.

According to a press release issued from the Thayer County Sheriff’s Office, Hebron Fire crews arrived on the scene at approximately 10:32 p.m.

Fire crews made entry into the dwelling and found an unresponsive male inside and transported the victim to the Thayer County Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Fire crews extinguished a small fire within the residence within minutes of arrival.

The Thayer County Sheriff’s Office and Hebron Fire Department requested the assistance of the Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol. Investigators are determining the cause of the fire which originated in the basement.

The deceased was identified as 61 year-old Anthony J. Wiedel. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
