Lady Titans advance to district final
Thayer Central knocked out Tri County and Malcolm Tuesday night in C2-5 subdistrict volleyball to advance to the district final this Friday.
The Lady Titans defeated the Trojans in a clean sweep, 25-8, 25-8, 25-13. “We were able to get all of our players in during the three-set match,” said Titans Coach Kurk Wiedel. “Pinpoint receive and tough serving allowed us to run our offense well.”
In the subdistrict final against Malcolm, the Lady Titans went 25-13, 25-19, 25-19 for the win. “We played a complete game with tough serving and pinpoint passing,” the coach said. “Bridgette had a great night at the net with 21 kills and three ace blocks. Tarryn did a nice job of running our offense and getting the ball to our hot hitters. Kelsey and Megan Bulin continue to provide tough passing and digging in the primary passing role. Overall, a great team effort.”
The Titans (21-7) will take on Aquinas Catholic (19-13) at Friend this Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., for the C2-3 district final. The winner advances to the 2012 C2 state tournament next week.
In the contest against Tri County, Bridgette Baden led the way with 15 kills and two ace blocks. Tashia Mumm provided three ace serves while Kelsey Long controlled the back court with 11 digs. Tarryn Tietjen provided 19 assists.
Against Malcolm, as stated above Baden led with 21 kills, three ace serves and four ace blocks. Kelsey Long again controlled the back court with 20 digs and Tietjen provided a notable 31 assists.
