Pro Steer Wrestlers Qualifies for Finals in Two Countries
![Bulldogger Dru Melvin (r) takes down a steer during one of the many rodeos he competes in. The professional steer wrestler qualified for both the United States and Canadian national rodeo finals this summer. Both qualifications are based on money won in the two separate circuits. The National Finals Rodeo, held in Las Vegas this December, accepts the top 15 performers in each event while the top ten compete in the Canadian Finals Rodeo, which is held in November. If you pay any attention at all to the professional rodeo circuit, you’ve surely heard of Dru Melvin. And if you haven’t, chances are you might very soon. You see, Melvin, who’s married to Hebron native Brittany Wiedel, has been kicking up a lot of dust lately. “He just qualified for both the National Finals Rodeo and Canadian finals,” Brittany says. “He’s always wanted to make the finals in Canada and now that he has, he’s pretty excited. I’m so proud of my husband and all of his accomplishments. We are so thankful for this amazing year and he is so deserving of it.”
Melvin is a professional bulldogger, which means he wrestles 450 to 650 pound longhorn steers to the ground…on the run.
