Thayer and Nuckolls FSA offices join
Nebraska FSA Announces Local Office Structure and Program Administrative Changes
January 13, 2014 – The Nebraska Farm Service Agency continues to address various resource deficits which include reductions in current staffing ceilings. These reductions in staff ceilings coupled with current retirements have left some local Service Centers in Nebraska short on staffing resources. As a result, the challenge remains ongoing to determine the most efficient utilization of full time employees within the Service Centers in Nebraska.
In response to this challenge and the local conditions currently in Nelson, the Nebraska State FSA Committee (STC) and the State Executive Director (SED) have established a shared management operation in Thayer and Nuckolls Counties. Beginning January 13, 2014, the Nuckolls County FSA office will now offer service by appointment only, four days a week and will become a sub-office under the Thayer-Nuckolls shared management operation. Thayer County will be the headquarters office and will still offer service five days a week. Jay VanWesten, CED in Thayer County will lead this newly created shared management operation.
The new office hours in Nuckolls County will be Monday thru Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Nuckolls County Farm Service Agency will be closed on Fridays. This change does not affect the office hours of the Nuckolls County NRCS office. It is also planned to have all of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) files currently administered out of the Nuckolls County location be immediately moved to Thayer County for servicing. All affected CRP producers will be receiving some correspondence soon referencing this decision and the options available if this move is not convenient.
In order to best utilize the current staff in Hebron and Nelson, we are asking producers to assist us in planning and organizing the work by contacting the appropriate Service Center ahead of your visit. Calling ahead will give our operations the best chance of providing the type of service everyone has been accustomed to in each location. Walk-ins will still be welcome at each location, however first preference will be given to those that have called ahead and established a time.
The shared staff in Hebron and Nelson is getting adjusted to this new concept and are working now developing plans to be the most efficient. We ask for patience as this plan unfolds and look forward to assisting the producers in each county in the best manner possible.
