Third Graders Participate in Farm Safety Day
Third graders from Deshler, Bruning-Davenport and Thayer Central visited the Hebron Sale Barn Thursday, April 9, to learn about farm safety.
Sponsors included Reinke Manufacturing, UNL Cooperative Extension, AgrAbility, Easter Seals Disability Services and Dupont Pioneer.
The students spent the day learning about topics such as electrical, livestock, ATV, grain and chemical safety.
This is the second year in a row the event has been hosted. Above: The entire group of third graders from Deshler, B-D and Thayer Central show off their Farm Safety Day t-shirts.
Presentations included Crystal Fangmeier talking about food safety by comparing drinks such as Gatorade and Mountain Dew to dangerous chemicals and has students choose which they thought was safe to drink. Clayton Hergott, event coordinator, also spoke to students about AgrAbility, an organization that assists farmers and ranchers with disabilities. AgrAbility has helped make it possible for Hergott to continue his cattle operation.
