Word of warning from Thayer County Emergency Manager

Thayer County is not immune from fire danger.

It is easy at this time of year to become complacent about fire danger when we are in the “Green”  time of year. The fact is that Thayer County is bordered by counties in Kansas that are in Extreme Fire Danger Category according to the National Weather Service.  Also, with the heat coming this week and the lower dew points, fire danger is likely to increase for us. Add to that the possibility of outdoor activities such as outdoor cooking, camp fires, and fireworks, the danger increases.

Let’s all do what we can to make the Independence Day Holiday safe by being cautious with the use of open flames, charcoal grilles,  camp fires, and Fireworks. Have a great Independence Day! ~Thayer County Emergency Manager William McPherson
