Accident results in arrest
A Deshler man was arrested late Saturday night after allegedly stealing a car and then wrecking it.
According to Thayer County Sheriff David Lee, local deputies responded to a one-vehicle accident in Deshler at 10:10 p.m., July 16, where they discovered a wrecked vehicle, but no driver. Following a quick investigation, the in-transit vehicle was discovered to be local and owned by someone other than the driver.
“Thanks to the willingness of citizens to get involved,” Sheriff Lee said, “an arrest was made possible.”
Johnathan Wilson, of 414 Willard Ave., Deshler, was arrested for auto theft, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and false reporting, the sheriff said.
An accident report stating the make and owner of the wrecked vehicle is not yet available.
A court date is pending.
