DeJong Trial Set
Susan DeJong will stand trial for murder Feb. 17, in District Court at Fairbury. DeJong was arrested and charged with killing her husband,
Thomas DeJong, March 11, 2011, after he was pronounced dead at BryanLGH hospital in Lincoln. An autopsy ruled the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to his head, torso and limbs.
The couple lived in a rural home on Highway 136 two miles east of Gilead.
On Jan. 26, a hearing was held in Gage County to determine if evidence of “prior bad acts” will be allowed during DeJong’s trial this month. Judge Paul Korslund will preside at the trial.
Corey O’Brien of the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office presented testimony from several witnesses at the hearing including DeJong’s son, daughter-in-law, and her employer at the time of her arrest.
DeJong is charged with murder in the first degree and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
