Heritage Highway Association Announces Photography Contest
The Heritage Highway Association recently announced that they are accepting entries for the 2012-2013 Heritage Highway photography contest.
Nebraska’s Heritage Highway is a 238-mile stretch of Nebraska Highway 136 extending from historic Brownville along the banks of the Missouri River westward to Edison.
This stretch of Highway 136 cuts across a section of Nebraska where the historical significance is undeniable. The restored buildings, a riverboat, community theatres, captivating museums, vintage hotels, and historic churches found along the byway are sure to set the stage for a variety of magnificent photos.
According to Byway President Ashley Olson of the Willa Cather Foundation in Red Cloud, “The summer and fall tourism seasons are a great time to get out and explore some of the amazing sites that are right here in our own backyard. We hope that travelers who are participating in the Heritage Highway Passport program will bring along their cameras and enter their photos in this contest.”
Photographs spanning a range of tourism-related categories will be accepted, but must have been taken since the designation of the Heritage Highway Scenic Byway in October, 1999. Photographers of the top three photos will be eligible for prizes including vacation packages for Red Cloud, Fairbury, and Pawnee City.
The contest will be judged by a panel of photographers with an impressive set of credentials. Holly Troxel, of Holly Troxel Photography in Fairbury; Rebecca Johnson, photographer and graphic designer for Peru State College; and Valerie Knobel whose work has been accepted in national and international juried exhibitions, commissioned by private as well as public entities, and is represented by Gallery Nine in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Contest entries are due by January 1, 2013. For a complete set of contest rules, visit the www.heritagehighway136.com or call 402-746-3238.
Photographs will be on display at the Red Cloud Opera House for physical viewing and voting for a Viewer’s Choice Award during the month of February 2013. Winners will be announced March 24, 2013.
