Five wrestlers to represent Thayer Central at state meet
Five Titans will head to Omaha Thursday to compete in the 2013 NSAA State Wrestling Meet. Held at the CenturyLink Center, first rounds in Class D begin at 9:30 a.m., Feb. 14. The meet lasts through Saturday.
Returning to the state mats, seniors Clayton Hintz and Dalton Kenning will finish out their high school careers in Omaha after qualifying at districts last week. Hintz finished second in the 138 weight division at the Class D-1 district meet to qualify while Kenning earned a third place win in the 145 weight division. “Our two seniors really lead the team this year and showed that hard work does pay off,” said Coach Brett Larson about his senior qualifiers. “It was nice to see Clayton get his 100th win at the district meet.”
Juniors Cody Krula and Jamie Lange will also compete at the state meet after qualifying in the district rounds. Krula pocketed a silver medal in the 152 weight division while Lange finished third in the 132 weight division.
Rounding out the Titan squad is freshman Jayden Dightman making his first appearance at the state event. Dightman finished fourth at districts in the 113 weight division.
“I look forward to the state meet and to see the guys wrestle in the big arena and really perform to bring home some medals,” Coach Larson said. “It has been a great season and I know we will keep working hard and focus on our goals for the last week.”
