Columbus man charged with felony theft – Hebron woman sentenced for criminal mischief

Adam M. Bortle, 24, last known address, Columbus, was to appear in Thayer County Court for felony theft following his arrest last month.

Bortle is accused of stealing a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix owned by the John Kohl Auto Center, Inc., of York. The Columbus man was picked up in Saline County after law enforcement there discovered him walking on a highway. Bortle told officers he had run out of gas and it was quickly discovered the vehicle had been stolen in Hebron.

An employee with John Kohl lives in Hebron and had the vehicle parked in front of his home on Lincoln Ave., where Bortle is alleged to have driven off with it.
Bortle is currently jailed in Hebron on a $50,000 percentage bond awaiting his arraignment.

In district court, Miranda Brown, 21, formerly of Hebron, was sentenced to 24 months of probation Thursday, for attempted criminal mischief. She was also ordered to pay $3,352 in restitution and must go to jail for 48 hours.

Brown, who has moved to Seward since her arrest,  is accused of causing damage to a 1988 Chevrolet pickup that did not belong to her.
