Thayer County Fair begins next week
The Thayer County Fair begins next week and final preparations are being made for the three day event.
Pre-fair contests are already underway. The ice cream contest was the first pre-fair contest and 4-H members participated in the contest on Friday, July 26. The fashion show and performing arts contest will be Thursday, Aug 1. The dog show and companion animal show will be held Saturday, Aug. 3. The following day the horse show will begin at 9:30 a.m. All upcoming pre-fair contests will be held at the agriculture hall with the exception of the horse show which will be held inside the grandstand ring.
Many activities are slated for evening entertainment this year. Beginning on Thursday night the Rawhide-n-Dusty show will be on the midway with shows beginning at 8 and 10 p.m.
The Rawhide-n-Dusty show is an event that features roping, horse and bull whip tricks.
On Friday night, the Rawhide-n-Dusty show will appear again at 6 and 8 p.m.
Saturday evening features the sport mods and vehicle and trailer races in the grandstands.
Besides the grandstand and midway shows, each night features special activities starting off with the annual parade and Thayer County Pioneer Farm Family awards on Thursday, Aug. 8. On Friday and Saturday evening there will be a metal art auction outside the beer garden.
Inside the beer garden, Bourbon Street will perform on Friday and T-Marv and Hammer Down will perform Saturday.
All day on Saturday there will be a car show at the city park in Deshler.
All of the entertainment is rounded out with big rides and carnival games as Thomas D. Thomas Shows returns with fun-filled action for all ages. Ride wristbands can be purchased at Thayer County banks until Aug. 7 then at the fair board office after that date.
The fair wouldn’t be complete without all the 4-H activities as Thayer County members showcase their projects. Animal competitions include the goat, sheep and rabbit shows on Aug. 8. The contests continue with the beef and poultry shows on Aug. 9. The swine show will be held the morning of Aug. 10 with the small and large animal round robins following in the afternoon.
A detailed list of times and dates can be found on page 6 of this week’s issue of the Hebron Journal-Register.
