Motorcycle/car accident at Chester
Joseph G. Sitko, 49, Alden, Mich., was taken to Thayer County Health Services Saturday after running into a vehicle that pulled out in front of him as he was riding his motorcycle on U.S. 81 near Chester. The driver of the vehicle, 19-year old Kieffer C. Mumm, Hebron, was not injured.
According to the accident report on file at the Thayer County Sheriff’s Office, Mumm said he was stopped at the Highway 8 stop sign facing east when he attempted to make a left turn into the northbound lanes of U.S. 81. He said he looked north and saw headlights, but thought they were far away. After looking south and seeing no traffic, the young man pulled into the intersection in front of the southbound Sitko. Sitko, after running into the driver’s side front fender of the vehicle, was thrown to the pavement from his 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Injuries to Sitka’s abdomen and pelvis region are indicated on the report, although extensiveness of his injuries is unknown. He was later taken from TCHS to a Lincoln hospital.
Mumm was driving a 1996 Oldsmobile which was also totaled in the accident. He was reportedly wearing his seatbelt and neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected. The accident occurred Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
