District Court Sentencings Carried Out
Thayer County held its district court hearing last Thursday, Jan. 8 and Judge Vicki Johnson dealt out several sentencings.
Johnson first sentenced Timothy Tscharner, 26, to one count of violation of the sex offender registration act, a class IV felony. The Deshler man was sentenced to 360 days in the Thayer County Jail and given 89 days credit of time served. Tscharner was arrested last October when the Deshler city office informed the sheriff department that Tscharner was living in Deshler. He was listed on the registry as living in Potter, Neb. In January 2005, he was convicted of sexual abuse of a minor, a class III felony, in Cochise County, Ariz. This is Tscharner’s second violation for failing to register as a sex offender.
Next up, Matthew Wright, 19, was sentenced to a term of not less than two years and no more than three for his involvement in a burglary of the Pioneers Inn in Gilead and the theft of a four wheel ATV from Belvidere. Wright was taken to the Nebraska Department of Corrections to begin his sentence.
James Coats was sentenced to 12 more months of probation and 70 days in the Thayer County jail for violating his probation. Coats was sentenced to probation after being charged with forgery, a class III felony in 2013.
Larry Sharp, 44, also charged with violating the sex registration act, entered a plea bargain with prosecutors and changed his plea to guilty. His charges were amended to attempted violation of the sex offender registration act. Sharp was convicted of attempted sexual assault of a child in Nuckolls County in January 2000. His sentencing is set for March 5 at 9:45 a.m.
The next district court hearing will take place on the morning of March 5.
