Junior Legion heads into Area 5 tourney

Update: The Hebron Junior Legion Baseball team ended its contention in the C-5 Area 5 tournament after three games last week. In the first contest against Wood River, the Hebron team blasted to a 13-1 finish advancing to game five of the series.

In that contest, the squad faced familiar foes Davenport-Edgar who defeated Hebron 11-1. Hebron then faced Wymore in the double-elimination contest on Saturday, July 16, where they fell 5-6. Hebron was seeded third in the bracket and ends its season 10-9.

Area 5 No. 2-seed Davenport-Edgar, coached by Jim Hild, advanced to face No. 1-seed Sutton after defeating Lawrence-Nelson 14-1 in its first game and the Hebron team in its second. In the contest against Sutton which took place Sunday, July 17, Davenport-Edgar fell to the Mustangs 0-4 forcing them into contention against Wymore on Monday, July 18, and after winning 6-5, set themselves up for the championship bout against Sutton, Tuesday, July 19.

Davenport-Edgar will need to win against Sutton twice Tuesday night to take the championship.

The American Legion Junior Baseball Team heads into the C-5 Area 5 tournament at Sutton tomorrow; winners advance to the state tournament in Hershey, July 23-27.

No. 3 Hebron (9-7) faces No. 6 Wood River (1-9) at 5 p.m., July 14, in game two of the series.

Other matchups include No. 4 Doniphan-Trumbull (6-10) against No. 5 Wymore (4-11) at 2 p.m., and No. 7 Lawrence-Nelson (1-10) against No. 2 Davenport-Edgar (15-2) at 8 p.m.

No. 1 Sutton (27-3) rounds out the bracket and will play the winner of the Doniphan-Trumbull/Wymore matchup on Friday, July 15, at 8 p.m.
