Cancer survivors celebrate life

Thayer County Relay For Life was held Aug. 18 with 75-plus in attendance, including 48 registered cancer survivors. A silent auction, cake raffle and donations was held to raise funds for the American Cancer Society in addition to the sale of T-shirts and window decals. Thayer County Relay For Life committee member, Shannon Collier from Bruning, said another Recess For Relay may be held at the schools in the spring. The Recess activity was popular with the students last year. The committee is also planning to try and coordinate an evening Survivor’s Lap in the future. Collier said the activity has always been popular with survivors and as a cancer survivor herself, the lap is  wonderful and emotional, and features lighted Luminaries in memoriam.
