Discover Geneva Patriotism Celebration kicks off July 1
The 7th annual Discover Geneva Patriotism Celebration kicks off with a Poker Run sponsored by American Legion Post 68 on Sunday, July 1. Registration begins at noon at the Geneva VFW Hall. The main celebration in Geneva begins on Tuesday afternoon right after normal working hours. Featured events on July 3 are Inflatables and Kids Games from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.; food vendors, a home-cooked pork meal and hamburger stand; Co-ed sand volleyball tournament; 3-on-3, 9-foot hoop basketball tournament and the opening of the beer garden at 5 p.m. One of Omaha’s premier classic rock bands, Taxi Driver, hits the main street stage at 9 p.m. for a FREE Street Dance on Tuesday night. The band’s female-driven vocals and musical variety are sure to impress and get you dancing.
A pancake feed and fun run/walk/bike gets things started in Geneva on the 4th of July. Just prior to the 10 a.m., main street “The Rockets’ Red Glare Parade,” a flea market, craft show and Art on the Green activities will begin. Events taking place in the Fillmore County seat after the parade on Wednesday include a Motor Sports show; flag-raising display; military support rally; free fire truck and train rides; home-cooked hamburger feed; Inflatables and Kids Games from 1 to 5 p.m.; musical performances in the Rialto II Theatre featuring the Bob Jones University Music Team, Helen Johnson’s Many Musical Hats Show and Luke Weekly’s Country Music Show; free swimming and free courthouse concert, home-cooked evening meal and Fireworks.
