The Class C Area 5 Senior American Legion tournament got started last week as No. 2-seeded Hebron met No. 7 Harvard/Giltner in the first game of the series at Giltner. On Thursday, July 22, Harvard/Giltner finished the game 5-3 forcing Hebron into the loser’s bracket to face a long road to the championship game in the double-elimination tournament.
But the team’s path was cut short Monday night, July 26, when they experienced their second loss to No. 5 Sutton following an eight-inning scorcher. Sutton capped the game 5-3 forcing Hebron out of state contention.
Hebron’s first contest in the bracket was against No. 3 Geneva. The Hebron team won, 6-1, and advanced to face No. 1 Davenport/Edgar who was upset Friday night in Game 8 by No. 4 Daykin-Meridian, 5-4.
Hebron again secured the win, 7-1, forcing the No. 1 seed out of the contest and setting themselves up to face Sutton Monday night.
Coaches for the Hebron Senior team are Russ Fangmeyer, Brad Firley and Brandon Fangmeyer. Members of the team include Gage Baker, Dylan Long, Hayden Farnstrom, Quinn Pracheil, Sam Wiedel, Braden Hergott, Andrew Wilshusen, Collen Krupicka, Spencer Moore, Brady Firley, Dillon Baker, and Austin Shaw.
