County Board hears about Byron Community Center

Members of the Byron Community Foundation and Byron Building District met with the Thayer County Board of Commissioners to share their plans for a new community center in Byron.

The Byron Community Foundation has already raised over $1 million dollars needed to build the facility. They have also raised additional funds to help with operational costs at the community center.

The foundation was planning on fund raising through 2015, but due to the many donations and pledges from community members they are ahead of schedule. Dirt work on the site should begin at the end of this month and the expected completion date is November of 2014.

Since the foundation isn’t allowed to own a building, the building district will act as owners and the foundation will support it financially.

The plans include moving the library to the community center. Also included in the plans is a fitness center, meeting room and kitchen.
