Excellent Harvest

Jon Chapman, Hebron, grows cabbages really big despite the fact that Thayer County is in severe drought conditions as of last Thursday.

Chapman says he plans to turn four of the monster vegetables into sauerkraut – “I ought to get about 80 pounds of kraut, don’t you think,” he laughs.

The cabbage pictured above weighs 22 pounds and measures 48 inches around its circumference. His others, he said, are 19, 20, and 21 pounds.
