Fourth of July plans shaping up
This year’s theme is The Red, White and Blue.
Bathtub races are a new addition to the fun-packed Independence Day celebration in Hebron on July 4 this year. Teams of three people and a bathtub will have the opportunity to compete for prizes as they race their way to the finish line. As in years past, the annual festival is chock full of family-friendly activities just like this from dawn until dusk.
Also new to this year’s venue is a Star Spangled Funky Foto Booth, hula hoop contest, Trautman’s tattoos and a dignified disposal of unserviceable flags presented by the American Legion, Legion Riders and Boy Scouts.
Traditional activities scattered throughout the day include the ever-popular Little Mister and Miss Firecracker contest, a freedom fun run, bicycle decorating contest, patriotic puppy parade and doggie costume contest, inflatable games in Roosevelt Park, Nebraska Cattlemen sanctioned team sorting contest, Hebron Rotary duck pluck, HVFD water fights and 4th of July parade. This year’s theme for the parade is “The Red, White, and Blue.”
In the morning, the Starburst Talent Search will feature local talent vying for a chance to compete at the state level. Individuals who would like to participate still have time to register. See the blue box at the left of this article to see how. Performances are limited and winners advance to the Nebraska State Fair.
Later in the afternoon, prior to the parade, Jon Brueggemann will orate “Proclaiming Liberty.”
In between all the activities, a car show, antique tractor show and motorcycle show will be held throughout the day culminating in a processional during the parade.
Food is also on tap for the day including the Lions Club pancake feed, slushies, free watermelon and homemade ice cream in the park, the annual HVFD hamburger feed, at noon and Fantastic 4-H Friends pork chop dinner in the evening.
Additionally, the Hebron swimming pool will be open during the afternoon, Blue Valley Bowl will have open bowling throughout the day, and the Majestic Theatre will feature “How to Train Your Dragon 2” at 5 p.m.
As always the day ends with the annual fireworks extravaganza at the Hebron airport.
