Locals face burglary, theft charges

Two break-ins, one at C&M Supply, Inc., in Deshler, and the other at Tillie’s Bar & Grill in Byron, may have been committed by the same person.

Timothy Brungardt, 20, of Byron, was arrested in early May for allegedly breaking into C&M Supply and taking approximately $2,700 worth of cigarettes and beer. He was charged with felony burglary and felony theft upon his arrest and in June public defender Julie Effenbeck was assigned to his case.

The young Byron man was already facing a felony charge of criminal mischief from an incident in March where he allegedly caused extensive damage to a motor vehicle owned by someone else.

Brungardt was released from jail after posting bail and on July 16 was again arrested for allegedly breaking into Tillie’s Bar & Grill sometime  during the night on July 15 or early morning of July 16 and taking several cartons of cigarettes. According to the arrest report filed at the courthouse, Brungardt was charged with felony burglary and is currently in jail on a $100,000/ten percent bond.

On Friday, July 23, he was scheduled to appear in county court for arraignment, but the case was continued to Sept. 10, at 9:15 a.m. Brungardt will also have a hearing on the criminal mischief charge at that time. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing for the burglary and theft charges from the May 5 incident on Aug. 13 at 2 p.m.

In the C&M Supply case, Levi Templin, 20, of Hebron, is alleged to have acted with Brungardt and according to the arrest affidavit on file at the courthouse, was charged with felony burglary and felony theft, as well. On June 25, Templin’s case was bound over to district court and his bond was reduced to a $25,000 personal recognizance bond. He is scheduled for arraignment in district court Aug. 12.

Templin is also facing a DUS (driving under suspension) charge and a failure to appear charge for missing a court date. That case was continued to a later date. Lucas Swartzendruber is assigned to the Templin cases.
