TC Board increases meal prices
The Thayer Central Board of Education has set new student fees for the 2013-2014 school year. Included in the list of student fees are meal prices which will go up 10 cents. Along with a meal price mark up, the price of an extra milk and an additional entree will be increased.
Due to an increase in food costs, the rise in prices was necessary to counter that increase and help cover the costs for the meals.
The one exception of meal prices going up is the price to eat breakfast at the school. The price of breakfast will remain the same at $1.60.
Another item on the agenda was a discussion about facilities. Some members of the board met with W Design of Hastings on June 26. After meeting with the company, new plans were drafted and shared with the entire board. The new plan involves less square footage than what was in the previous plan. It also addresses some problems that were brought up concerning the previous design.
“I think this new design addresses the issues that the community group brought up,” Harris said.
The next step with these designs is to look into pricing of the renovations.
In other business, the board approved an increase in the substitute teacher pay rate to $103 per day. A contract was approved for Lara Harms to teach language arts. The need for a new vehicle was discussed. After discussion, the board approved the purchase of a new Ford Fusion.
