Valentines for Veterans

About 200 Thayer Central elementary students created valentines to make a difference in the lives of active and retired service men and women in Nebraska. Most of the handmade well-wishes will be delivered to the VA hospital and retirement home in Grand Island, while others will be forwarded on to the VA hospital in Omaha. About 40 cards will stay local going to veterans at the Blue Valley Lutheran Homes here in Hebron. The project, organized by Margaret Miller of Hebron, includes students from Fairbury, Geneva and Superior, for a total of approximately 750 handmade valentine cards. “They are to let our veterans know they are not forgotten,” Miller said, “and gives our children a way to recognize them for the sacrifices they have made.” Miller collected the valentines Monday morning and will distribute them before Valentine’s Day.
