Flu Cases Expected to Increase

Indicators from the Nebraska public health influenza and influenza- like- illness tracking systems show influenza activity continues to be in the widespread category.

This includes the five Public Health Solutions (PHS) counties: Gage, Saline, Thayer, Jefferson and Fillmore Counties.

Reports of outbreaks in nursing homes continue to be received by the state.

The state reports three influenza associated deaths so far this season.

With the children returning from school, we anticipate reports of flu- like illness to increase.

PHS again cautions that the population from six months and older should seek a flu immunization from their physician.

For those without insurance or means to pay should contact PHS  to determine options.

Influenza can be very serious particularly for small children, elders and those with chronic disease or conditions. It is never too late to immunize.

PHS can be reached by phone at (402) 826-3880.
